Two layers need a defined relationship
The 358 mesh aperture is 76.2 × 12.7 mm. In a double-skin arrangement, the drawing also needs to identify the position of each layer, their separation or offset, and the connection to the posts. Those choices affect visibility, access to fasteners and the space occupied by the assembly.
The wire diameter, panel dimensions and support arrangement belong to the agreed product schedule. Doubling the number of skins does not automatically double a security rating or establish a tested delay.
Decide whether the added layer serves the project
| Construction issue | Effect on the order |
|---|---|
| Layer arrangement | Defines brackets, spacers and assembly depth |
| Fixing access | Determines the installation and replacement sequence |
| Post and foundation loads | Require assessment for the complete assembly |
| Gate continuity | Needs an appropriate gate construction and separate evidence where required |
A single-skin system may be easier to inspect and maintain. A double-skin system may be specified for a particular project requirement, but the designer must establish that requirement and the supporting evidence. Compare the complete system rather than simply counting wires.
Include the connections in the supply package
Identify both skins, posts, clamps or bars, spacers, fasteners and closing details. Use assembly marks so that installers can distinguish the inner and outer components. Keep replacement panels linked to the original layer arrangement; similar mesh alone does not establish fit.
Where a rated system is required, provide the specified standard and classification with the enquiry. The LPS 1175 guide explains why construction terminology cannot substitute for assembly evidence.
