Select from the connection outward

Start with an assembly drawing where one is available. It shows how the parts relate to one another, including an overlap, spacer or post wall that a loose-part description can omit.

New installations and repairs need different information

For a new installation, build the component list from the fence layout and approved connections. Count line, end, corner and gate positions separately. Identify the quantity of components in each set before multiplying the sets across the project.

For a repair, start with the existing part and its mating surfaces. A measured photograph should show the connection from more than one side. A cap needs the post-opening dimensions; a clip needs the mesh and post geometry; a replacement bolt needs the complete joint thickness and thread details.

Prevent small parts becoming unidentified stock

Use one item reference consistently on the component schedule, drawing and pack label. Similar clips or fasteners can have different lengths or offsets, which may not be obvious when they arrive in bulk.

For distributor replenishment, retain the approved reference rather than reordering from a general description such as “mesh fixing”. Our distributor supply process covers repeat-order records and change control.

Include the connection's finish and service access

The visible colour is only part of the finish description. Specify the required material and treatment for the post, clamp and fastener. Also identify how a connection will be maintained, particularly when using a permanent fixing or a dedicated security tool.
