Chain link is a woven fabric that needs a defined support and tensioning arrangement. The finish, wire dimensions, roll sizes and edge details identify the fabric; posts and attachments complete the fence specification.

Keep the same underlying wire and roll specification when comparing prices. Two rolls with the same colour or nominal height may contain different lengths or wire sizes.

Distinguish rolls from framed panels

Unframed fabric is a different supply item from a temporary chain link panel, where the fabric is retained within a rigid frame. Decide which format is required before counting supports and connections.

For roll fencing, identify ends, corners and openings on the layout. Their terminal and tensioning details should not be assumed identical to regular line-post positions.

Preserve the replacement specification

Record the mesh measurement convention, wire size, edge form, finish and roll dimensions. If a gauge number is used, identify the gauge system.

For an existing installation, photographs of the terminations and measured fabric are useful alongside the original order reference. Include the posts and fittings where replacement supply must match an existing interface.
