Translate the trade name into a construction description
PVC is polyvinyl chloride. Formulations and additives allow different properties, so identifying the polymer alone is not a finished-product specification. Ask whether the proposed fence uses hollow rigid profiles, solid components, a capped or layered profile, or a coating on another material. Record the material of the rails, infill, posts, reinforcement and fixings separately. A PVC panel can still contain metal components that require their own corrosion and interface consideration.

Do not compare prices across these descriptions as though they represent the same item.
Convert dimensions before comparing offers
Suppose one illustrative offer describes a 6 ft section and another a 1,800 mm section. Six feet equals 1,828.8 mm, a difference of 28.8 mm. Across ten panel widths, that difference totals 288 mm before any connection offsets are considered.
The conversion uses 25.4 mm per inch and 12 inches per foot. It does not establish the installed bay pitch: that depends on how the rails engage the posts. Ask both suppliers to state the finished panel dimension and the installed centre spacing in the same units.
Also distinguish overall height from infill height and post length. A nominal six-foot fence can include a taller post for its mounting arrangement. Ordering by a trade name and one imperial dimension leaves too much unresolved.
Read the cross-section drawing
Outside width and depth do not reveal the wall distribution of a hollow profile. Inspect internal ribs, rail engagement, screw locations and any reinforcement. An alternative profile can have the same outside dimensions while accepting different inserts or fixing hardware.
Request the allowed assembly clearances and movement detail from the system manufacturer. Do not infer a clearance from a different brand's instruction sheet. Temperature, profile length and installation geometry affect the detail, and a joint that appears loose in a small sample may have a defined purpose.
Ask what the evidence actually covers
A test report should identify the tested product, configuration and method. A material test coupon does not automatically establish the behaviour of a complete panel with its posts. Likewise, a weathering statement needs its test conditions and assessment basis; it should not be converted into an unsupported service-life promise.
For an importer, retain the report reference beside the approved profile drawing. If the factory substitutes an insert, compound or rail geometry, determine whether the original evidence still applies before accepting the substitution.
Separate a profile sample from a complete fence system
When a supplier sends a short PVC section, use it to identify the profile and its local mating surfaces. Ask how the full rail is supported, whether reinforcement continues through its length and how the post connection is retained. These features may be absent from the short sample even though they are essential to the finished assembly.
Compare the section against the drawing rather than relying on its weight in the hand. Internal ribs, wall distribution and inserts can change the construction without substantially changing the outside appearance. Keep the sample reference with the material and drawing records.
If an alternative sample is proposed later, identify every difference and return affected requirements for review. Calling both products vinyl does not establish equivalent fit or behaviour. The purchasing record should allow an inspector to distinguish the accepted system from a visually similar profile that was never assessed for the order.
Write a useful order description
Specify the profile system, dimensions, colour, reinforcement, post arrangement, gate details and drawing revision. Label each supplied component so a replacement can be ordered by identity rather than by the broad term vinyl.
